Choosing products at a home show – the ins and outs of an air purification system. An air purifier is a device which removes contaminants from air. Air purifiers are commonly marketed as being particularly beneficial to allergy sufferers and asthmatics, and at reducing second-hand tobacco smoke. Andy Bell of Handyman Matters explains what you should look for in an air purification system, including a discussion of the types of particles that should be filtered out of the air you breathe. While at a home show, he looks at an air purifier that attaches to a house furnace or air conditioner and provides a technical explanation of how bacteria, viruses, dust and other particles are removed from the air. Air purification can help asthmatics and people with allergies breathe better and also keeps everyone healthier by removing dust, pollution, airborne viruses and harmful bacteria from the air circulating through the home.
I bought, what looks like, a new ionic air purifier at an estate auction. It did not come with instructions. How do I clean the metal plates inside the machine, that collect the particles out of the air. Thanks for any help
More info: www.jr.com Unlike purifiers that trap particles in dense filters using loud motors, the IFD filter traps particles without interrupting the air flow. Quiet, efficient performance with no expensive filters to replace. IFD is an Intense Field Dielectric process that revolutionizes indoor air cleaning to provide you and your family with quiet and permanent air filtration. Since the filter never needs to be replaced, there are no expensive filters to buy, saving you hundreds of dollars in possible filter replacement costs. If you want to freshen and clean the room air, or suffer from seasonal allergies, then an IFD Air Purifier is right for you. Like HEPA filters, IFD uses ionization and filtration methods to quietly and effectively help reduce airborne particles such as mold spores, dust, pollen, cat dander and tobacco smoke from the air that passes through it, with a maximum air purification percentage of 99.97%. The time for cleaner air at home is now. The HFD130 makes the most sense for an average size room (of about 200 square feet).
I have a HEPA air filter. It has a button on it, which turns on the optional "ionizer" feature. The system is made by Honeywell (actually a company called Kaz, which sells it under the Honeywell name.)
Any information on the helpful effects of having "negative ions" in the air?
Hey folks,
I was given a HoneyWell 52500 air purifier a while back from a friend. I’m not sure how much it was used or if the filter or pre-filter was replaced because his parents gave it to him.
Is there anyway I can tell if it needs a new prefilter and/or a new filter? Together they cost nearly 0, so I’d rather not just buy it for the heck of it.
Thanks!

I love using aromatherapy (but very new to it) and currently I am using a small glass dish with a tea-light to heat the oils. Now I want to get an air filter/purifier to clean the air in my home office (where I also use the aromatherapy oils). When I use the air cleaner/purifier, will it "clean" the scent of my aromatherapy, basically making it useless and a waste to heat the oils?
