005 Briggs 5 hp with Tillotson Carb (Cold Start) & Rev
This video was filmed after 3 days of tuning. This is a “cold start” with over 20 hours of no prior operation. I drain the fuel everyday and that is why it takes so many pulls to start. The Carburetor is set to idle very well and with no hesitation to partial throttle or full throttle when engine is warm. The “Air Cleaner” is made from a cheap rubbermaid container and some spunge foam. The cost of this setup is about .85. I put the stock exhaust back on because I thought the motor might be to loud to tune. The exhaust creates a small pressure area in the canister which makes the “black smoke” from running rich easier to see. This helps during tuning & final carburetor adjustments. Upgrades since last movie are: 1. Honed Cylinder 2. New Piston rings 3. Better Cylinder Head (used) 4. Billet Rod (ARC Enduro used) 5. New Aluminum color 500 degree paint 6. Tillotson Carb/Intake (New Old Stock) 7. Air Cleaner (New .85) 8. New Spark Plug (Champion) Great Forum for Briggs 5 hp info!!!! These are Builders and Racers!!!! karting.4cycle.com Free!!! nice engine

Maybe E85 !!!!!
You need to ask before you buy one.
The venturi is about .750″ or 3/4″
I sell them, but can’t remember where I put them.
Trash it !!!!
Compression is better with the new piston rings !!!!
You need a tilly intake manifold.
The paint is Kragens 500 degree aluminum color
Adjustment is a little different for every carb.
It came with a pulsa-jet carb.
I don’t think anyone could answer that question.
True-Dat !!!!!
You have to make a custom one.
try E C carburetors
cam and the way you set the valve lash
@OakTreeMRJ
Cam is stock.
I agree the air filter box is a good idea , the “kill switch” is also well redneck , i approve and use redneck fixing : this helps to save a lot of money .
This engine runs fine . Good job !
comment my gokart viedos!!! i have the same engine as yours on it!!!
I just got a briggs 5hp (I think the flathead kind) and I would like to change from the pulse-jet carb that came stock w/ it, not enough adjustments for me. What are some good carbs (I see the Tillotson 239 seems nice) for this engine. My mods are:
1.removed gov.
2. 1″ exhaust w/ muffler
3. stock intake, (thought i’ll be getting a filter for it soon).
i love the kill switch
R U talking about the string on the coil???
